These particular nutrients used to be available to us through food that was grown in pure nutrient-rich soil, traditional food preparation (fermenting) and spending time outside in the sun (without sun screen slathered all over us). Unfortunately, even if your family is eating REAL food, local and organic, the food still falls short on vitamin/mineral content.
Studies that compared the mineral content of soils today with soils 100 years ago found that agricultural soils in the United States have been depleted of 85% of their minerals. (Rio Earth Summit 1992) Some of you eat fermented food daily - good for you! For the rest of us, we need to supplement with probiotics for an easy source of the beneficial bacteria found in fermented foods. Due to water contamination, daily fish consumption is not recommended for children so it's important to supplement with cod liver oil to meet our essential fatty acid needs. It's difficult to optimize your child's vitamin D without adequate sunshine exposure. Extra vitamin D in certain cod liver oil is the easiest way to feed your child a daily dose of D. Products We Believe In
We have searched high and low for products we believe to be safe & effective. The products we feature are ones we use in our own families and private practice. These products are manufactured by companies who exceed industry standards. They hire independent 3rd party testers to assure their products have the identity, strength, composition, quality and purity (free of harmful contaminants) that is represented on their label. These companies also test the effectiveness of their product in human clinical trials, in essence proving their supplements work! We've done our research, please do yours. Companies manufacturing supplements are not monitored by the FDA. Always research the company before consuming the supplement. Our 3 Must-Have Supplement are:
Yuck! My Child Won't Take These
She will take them if she knows she has too. Taste buds are trainable. After taking a supplement daily for a few weeks, taste buds become accustomed. Taking supplements can be a parenting issue. For us supplements are key to supporting our child's health. Once that decision has been made, supplements become non-negotiable. Your child has to take the daily supplements just like she has to brush her teeth and wear a seatbelt. Children respond to how we act. Just say, "Yes, honey, you can (insert whatever you child wants to do next - go outside, watch a show, text a friend, play a game, etc.) just as soon as you take your vitamins." And then, whatever you do, do not give in. Stay calm and make taking supplements a part of your child's daily routine, as well as your own. (Hint, hint - you need the same foundational supplements to support your health too!)
Why are Some Supplements so Expensive? Safe & effective supplements cost more for good reason. High quality ingredients, 3rd party testing and human clinical trials are expensive, and some of that expense is passed down to you, the consumer. We would rather pay more for supplements we know are safe and effective. Otherwise, we are spending money on supplements that may be adding to our child's toxic burden with harmful ingredients and in addition are not effective. They just don't work!
Even if you don't buy the supplements we feature, do your homework. Know the ingredients. Know if the minerals get to the cellular level. Know if the probiotics survive & proliferate in the human digestive tract. Know if the cod liver oil is free of PCBs and mercury. Know if the company takes the extra step to have their products 3rd party tested. The companies we turn to for supplements do have these high standards. The cost is worth it. Make your child's health top priority and reflect this is your budget. Include high quality and clinically proven effective supplements into your child's daily routine. We have budgets too and we do give up other things in order to pay for these supplements each month for our family. It's important! Make the decision to support your child's health with essential supplements. It matters for his current health and his future health. Keep The Faith
Though you may not see the benefit yet of all you are doing with supplements and dietary changes to improve your child's health, in time her body will show you with symptomatic improvement. So many children have allergies, asthma, eczema and the common theme amongst them all (including obesity, ADD, sleep disturbances and more) is inflammation. Many children do remarkably better on just daily probiotics, cod liver oil with extra vitamin D and a multi-vitamin/mineral. So keep the faith. |
