Probiotics Lower Belly Fat and Body Weight. PubMed.gov According to a recent study, the probiotic Lactobacillus gasseri SBT2055 (LG2055) showed lowering effects on abdominal adiposity, body weight and other measures in obese adults, suggesting its beneficial influence on metabolic disorders.

We are big fans of probiotics. Research has supported the benefits of these healthy bacteria for the immune and digestive systems, but their anti-obesity effects have not been well examined. There has been research documenting that the gut bacteria differ between healthy weight and overweight individuals. Which comes back to one of our favorite sayings: Your Digestive Health is Key to Your Overall Health.

Why? People know their digestive system is responsible for digesting and absorbing their food, but most don’t realize that this sacred process of “digestion” is how we nourish every cell in our body. What is more important than the way we “feed” our cells?  Not much. Cells are the building blocks for every organ in your body, such as your heart, your lungs, your brain, etc. We feed our cells through proper digestion of food and absorption of nutrients. This all takes place in your digestive system. In other words, if your digestive system is not functionally optimally, the rest of “yourself” is compromised.

Include daily probiotics into your family diet, through fermented foods and a probiotic supplement. It's important to choose probiotics that have been clinically proven to be effective, since there are many strains of bacteria. More research is needed to see if other strains of bacteria carry weight loss benefits.
