Essential Oils for Colds & Flu Print E-mail

This cold and flu season why worry when Mother Nature has a solution for every problem? Respiratory infections can sneak up on us, but instead of overreacting we can respond with a safe and effective solution.  Better to prepare ourselves adequately and make use of nature’s wisdom than panic unnecessarily! As a mother and professional aromatherapist, I have trusted the wisdom of our ancestors who have basked in the immune-boosting benefits of natural essential oils. 

Essential oils are scientifically proven to fight infections.[1,2,3] Research has shown essential oils, like those contained in IMMUNE, raise chemical markers in the body, which indicate positive stimulation of the immune system. Essential oils may also provide a dual-protective effect: by increasing the strength and efficiency of our immune response AND by limiting the ability of viruses to replicate.  
 
The essential oils in IMMUNE have always been my number one option to safeguard the health of my family by strengthening the immune system and alleviating symptoms of respiratory disorders. IMMUNE combines seven powerhouse essential oils into one – oils such as: Eucalyptus Globulus and Eucalyptus Radiata (both powerful antibacterial and antiviral essential oils), Niaouli and Tee Tree oil (antibacterial, fungicidal and antiviral), Ravensara (antiviral), Pine essential oil (an expectorant and pulmonary antiseptic) and lavender essential oil (an analgesic useful for the treatment of colds, coughs and influenza).  
 
I always keep this little bottle on hand and at the first symptoms of a cold, I just follow these easy to use tips:

 

  • Put 2 drops of IMMUNE on a tissue every evening and tuck it under the pillow case.
  • Add 10 drops of IMMUNE to water, run overnight. The essential oil vapor in the air can prevent the spread of infection. Note, there’s a slight risk essential oils may damage a humidifier.
  • Place 2 drops of IMMUNE on a tissue and wipe surfaces like door knobs, steering wheel, etc.
  • Add 3 drops of IMMUNE to a bowl of warm water and inhale for about 10 minutes to ease blocked sinuses, chest complaints and colds.  Close eyes and cover head with towel to avoid burning with water or steam.
  • For older children, gargles are one of my favorite methods.  This is a very effective method for sore throats, respiratory problems and loss of voice. If they are done right as symptoms start, they can help fight the infection before it spreads. In an empty glass mix ½ teaspoon salt with 6 drops of IMMUNE, add the juice of one lemon and ½ cup warm water.  Stir well, gargle and spit it out.  Repeat gargle twice daily.
