Since my early days as a health care practitioner, I have believed in the motto “Show me the science.” In September of 1984, I along with twelve others formed the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology. The organization was formed primarily to scientificallyevaluate the bio-compatibility of dental materials. Fluoride is one of those substances we have been able to evaluate quite extensively.Coming to the conclusion that fluoridation, whether by oral ingestion or application should be stopped.
Points of interest:
Fluoride is a non-essential nutrient (definition: a non-essential nutrient which no human disease has been associated).
HydroFluosilicia acid and Sodium Silcoflournide are chemicals used to fluoridate 91% of water in the United States and have never been tested for safety and effectiveness.
The National Institute of Dental Research found that the average difference in tooth decay in fluoridated vs. no fluoridated area was less than 0.5% of the 128 surfaces of the tooth in children’s mouths (0.06 tooth difference).
Dental Fluorosis is the first visible sign that fluoride has effected enzymes in the body (1 out of 3 children in Fluoridated areas have this on at least 2 teeth.
Fluoride is found in our food chain. Processed beverages and foods sold in the United States contain elevated levels (above the .7-1-oppm ideal level) due to water and pesticides. Since the 1950’s the use of fluoride has increased substantially. Including food choices, some people may receive the ideal level of fluoride before consuming even one drop of water a day.
98% of Western Europe has rejected Water Fluoridation. The predominant reason is the public drinking water is not the appropriate vehicle to deliver medication to a population (FYI Prozac is a drug that contains fluoride as one of its ingredients).
Fluoride is not an FDA approved substance.
